Pearly Penile Papules (aka hirsuties papillaris genitalis, hirsuties coronae glandis, or hirsutoid papillomas) are small white coloured skin tags or domes that form around the penis gland. They appear in rows around the rim of the penis head and may also appear on either side of the frenulum.

For some, knowing pearly penile papules is a “normal” variant and not a sexually transmittable disease is enough reassurance to continue life without needing treatment. For others, like me, this reassurance was not enough. I wanted my pearly penile papules gone. I wanted to be comfortable in my own body and have the freedom to enjoy sex with the lights on; without the fear of being found out, and without the fear of rejection.

Before I started this site back in 2006, I searched the internet and went from library to library for 11 years looking for detailed information about pearly penile papule treatment or a pearly penile papules cure that would actually work. Every resource I looked at repeated the same nonsensical viewpoint: that pearly penile papules is a normal variant and no treatment is necessary. Despite being “normal” what the writers of these medical texts failed to take into account was the mental anguish someone with pearly penile papules can experience. While pearly penile is not a sexually transmittable disease, it clearly resembles one, and invariably elicits fear and panic in sexual partners. The internet was not any better. I was led around in circles by false information and false hopes: trying home remedy after home remedy that simply did not work; from toothpaste to wart removal products; from tea tree oil to iodine. Finally giving up on trying to find a home remedy that would actually work I turned my attention to other options that appeared. During my search I found one reference to treatment options for pearly penile papules. This reference detailed the use of carbon dioxide laser (CO2 laser), electrodesiccation with curettage, and excisional surgery. The latter two options did not appeal to me due to the surgical nature of the treatment. Indiscriminate scraping and cutting of tissue was not something I wanted to be done to my penis. That left CO2 laser. Researching further, I came across an old case study of pearly penile papules treatment using CO2 laser treatment. It was a short one page re-count of CO2 laser treatment of pearly penile papules on an African-American male. It had two or three pictures, however, the pictures were black and white with no clear definable edges. It just looked like a black blob with a white outline. Despite the quality of the photos, CO2 appeared to be the best option available.

Although I had found this encouraging information, I hesitated getting treatment for many years. My main concern was two or three forum posts from guys that proclaimed to have received treatment. These posts reported that they experienced loss of sensitivity, loss of elasticity, and one guy saying he needed to tattoo the treated area to re-gain natural skin tone (all now proven to be unnecessary concerns). Aggravating the situation, these guys never came back to answer any questions or provide any further information. They made their one post then disappeared.

During my years of hesitation my frustration with my pearly penile papules built up to the point where I had had enough of my life with pearly penile papules. I was sick of looking down everyday and seeing them, I was sick of avoiding sex, and I was sick of the fear of rejection. I wanted to get treatment no matter what the risks and no matter what the final outcome. Finally, after 11 years of searching and hoping and going through a range of emotions – fear, anger, frustration, anxiety, embarrassment just to name a few – I was able to say: I had no more papules!

NoMorePapules.com was born from that period. I wanted to share the information of my treatment experience and give a voice to my own mental anguish and that of other guys with pearly penile papules. Today (July, 2011), there are many sites that give great information about pearly penile papules treatment. Many have been started by previous members of this site, and doctors such as Dr. Groff (one of the first doctors approached by members of this site) now gives information about cosmetic treatment of pearly penile papules on his website, and has even done a TV special with another member of this site.

With the amount of information now available, there is no reason to live with pearly penile papules unless you feel comfortable doing so. CO2 laser treatment is a simple procedure that any dermatologist or urologist with basic training with the machine could adapt to treat pearly penile papules. I end this with a word of warning: Unfortunately, despite my efforts to provide the best possible information about pearly penile papules treatment, there are still some sites that provide false and misleading information concerning treatment options for pearly penile papules, offering e-books and products that are simply not useful to someone with pearly penile papules.
