Home Remedies

A quick search on the internet brings up many potential home remedies for pearly penile papules. The ones most popular amongst forum posters and erroneous websites vary from the simple application of toothpaste or tea tree oil to radical approaches such as using wart removal products and even more extreme methods such as do-it-yourself laser surgery. Without actual proof attached to these claims many guys with pearly penile papules desperate to rid themselves of their affliction attempt these potential cures in the privacy of their own home without the success they were hoping to produce. So, the question is: Do any of these home remedies actually work?

Unfortunately, for those looking for a quick simple treatment that you can do in the privacy of your own home, I am sorry to say – no home remedy has been proven to be effective in minimising or treating pearly penile papules (aka hirsuties papillaris genitalis). Considering the embarrassing nature of pearly penile papules, I can understand how the idea of a quick home remedy can be very appealing. It would make it so much easier to go to the bathroom cabinet, or down to the local shop or pharmacy; grab something of the shelf, and apply it at home without having to show or tell anyone.

I was in this mindset for the 11 years I had pearly penile papules. Made even more difficult by the lack of websites and information, I searched the internet nearly everyday hoping to come across a forum post from someone that had found a treatment that would actually work. Instead I came across home remedy after home remedy. By the time the 11 years had passed, I had tried every thing under the sun. Here are just some of those home remedies I tried, and I am sure many others have tried too:

* Toothpaste
* Tea Tree oil
* Mud mask
* Vitamin A and E
* Honey
* Aspirin
* Oatmeal
* Talcum powder (to keep area dry)
* Saturation with water (to keep the area moist)
* Olive oil (to keep area moisturised)
* Changing diet to whole foods
* Becoming a vegetarian for a period
* Chinese herbs
* Herbal teas
* Egg white
* Aloe Vera
* Not masturbating
* Masturbating more (fun but no change)
* Retina A cream
* Covering with plastic wrap
* Calamine lotion
* Keeping my foreskin back
* Try to rip them off
* Piercing them with hot needle
* Baby oil
* Betadine (iodine – powder & liquid)
* Eucalyptus oil
* Lemon juice
* Apple cider vinegar
* Trying to cut the tips off (do not even try)
* Salt
* Epsom salts
* Acne wash
* I was even on Accutane for about 6-8 months
* Taking various combinations of vitamins

There were many other strange and imaginative products I tried that I will not name to preserve a little dignity, but, basically, if you can find it around the home I probably tried it at some point during the 11 years. Needless to say – nothing I tried at home worked.

There were some more radical at home approaches that I found reference to on internet forums. Some of these extreme home remedies included wart removal products (creams and freezing), tediously applying iodine and even a report of someone applying potentially disfiguring chlorine!. All with no effect. While, I wanted my pearly penile papules gone, I was not willing to do anything dangerous or risk permanent disfigurement. In my opinion, any touted home remedy that could do more damage or cause harm is never worth attempting.

If even the more radical at home approches had no effect on pearly penile papules what hope did a bit of toothpaste or tea tree oil have in accomplishing the miracle. After 11 years, I had to resign myself to what medical text and articles had been saying all along – that there is just no cream or topical product that you can apply that will make pearly penile papules disappear. Whether prescription or natural product, there was just nothing that worked to cure pearly penile papules topically.

Giving up my search for a home remedy opened up my mind to other treatment options. That is how I came upon CO2 laser treatment. Throughout my years of searching online and reading medical texts from library to library, I came across two or three references to CO2 laser treatment of pearly penile papules. Here was a treatment that was supported by the medical profession, albeit only in a few texts. It was not a lot to go by and I hesitated for many years trying to find first hand reports and pictures of successful treatment using CO2 laser treatment. Back then, (pre the establishment of my site in 2006) there were no websites like mine, no TV shows showing treatment options, and definitely no doctors’ websites advertising pearly penile papules treatment. All I had were a few medical references and my own courage. NoMorePapules.com details my experience through that treatment.
